Random Things I Love That Aren’t Makeup

The last six months I’ve been dedicated to producing makeup-related content. That’s cool and all, but sometimes I gotta shake things up. Ya know, keep it interesting over here in this blog-o-sphere. Anyway, I figured I should share a list of other material things I love that have nothing to do with makeup whatsoever. Maybe later down the line, I’ll also do another favorites regarding non-material objects like bands, people I look up to, etc. I don’t know, let me know what you wanna hear from me. Also, I’m not including clothing in this post because that would be an entire blog post on its own. Ok, I’ll stop blabbering now, let’s get on with it.

Trader Joe’s Sugar Skull Succulent Planter: $9.99 (seasonal item)

I got this sick Dia De Los Muertos Sugar Skull with succulent around Halloween last year. At this point you’ve probably realized that said “succulent” is not pictured. That’s because I killed it. Not on purpose of course. In fact, my paranoid motherly instincts actually gave it too much love. And by love, I mean water. Yep, I drowned my poor succulent. Let’s not talk about it. I vow to replace it soon. Anyway, this planter is super cute and if I remember correctly came in a few different colors. I hope Trader Joe’s brings them back this fall because all of you self proclaimed emo kids need one.

Felt Like Sharing 10” x 10” Black Felt Letter Board: $45

My best friend bought me this for my birthday and maybe I cried? Ever since Kathleenlights made this a permanent background piece in her videos I thought it would be such a cute addition to my room. Plus, what’s better than being able to update something based on your mood? I’ll answer that: nothing. I love mine specifically because it’s not trying too hard. Some variations have different colored wood or felt, but I prefer this classic look. Most of the furniture in my room also has a wood finish so it matches perfectly.

Michael Kors Rose Gold Watch: $250.00 (exact style discontinued so I linked what looked like the closest)

When it comes to fashion, I’m not big on brand names. I mean I’ll never turn down a Gucci purse if offered one, but I won’t go out and buy it myself. (Brand name makeup is different though, that’s my weakness) My point is, anything I own that’s a popular name brand I have been gifted. My parents bought me this Michael Kors watch for my 21st birthday and I don’t think I’ll ever be sick of it. The design is simple, but the rose gold color just compliments the style perfectly. The best part is that I can bring it to a Michael Kors store at any time and they can readjust the wristband of the watch for free.

Blush and Bar Lana Leaf Stud Earrings: discontinued

I’m so sorry I keep talking about items no longer available. I’m totally having a Samantha Ravndahl moment when her beloved makeup products get discontinued and she’s not sure if she can go on. Anyway, these might be my favorite pair of earrings. Like ever. Simple jewelry is my jam and when I saw the cute leaf shape on Instagram I knew I needed them. They’re quirky but cute which honestly should be my new bio. Blush and Bar ripped my heart out because I can’t find them anywhere on the website. I do highly recommend checking out their other jewelry though because it’s ALL beautiful. I’ve had my eye on a couple of rings in particular.

Painted and Distressed Mason Jar Vase: Homemade (all supplies needed add up to under $30)

painted mason jar vase for home decor

Is this the most basic DIY project on all of Pinterest? Probably. I don’t care though because I adore this lil homemade vase. I’ll link the instructions so I don’t have to explain the process here, but I’m telling you it’s beyond easy. I’m all about things looking rustic which this mason jar vase definitely achieves. All of the tools needed for this project, including the flowers, I picked up at Michael’s. (Probably the store I spend most of my time in besides Ulta and Sephora.) I have this baby proudly displayed on a wooden shelf in my room where I can admire it in all of its glory.

URPOWER Essential Oil Diffuser: $14.99

My friend Kristina recommended I buy a diffuser after raving about hers. As someone who loves fragrance, but often gets headaches from strong candles, a diffuser seemed like the perfect option. It truly does work wonders and this one is so easy to use. I just fill it with water, add a couple drops of an essential oil (usually lavender), and plug it into an outlet. The diffuser automatically shuts off after an extended period of time, which is a cool feature, though I highly recommend turning it off and unplugging the wire before leaving the room. It really is a great source of stress relief as well as a less invasive alternative to candles.

Ring Light Kit: $100

I swear this is one of the best things I’ve ever received. My house, in particular, my bedroom has the worst lighting known to humankind. Trying to take pictures of makeup or beauty products inside was physically impossible before I got this ring light. Now, I can take pictures at any time of the day, even in the middle of the night if I really wanted to. I still prefer natural outdoor lighting to a ring light, but in the cold winter months it’s a real life saver. Also, when I try to take selfies outside the light sometimes washes out my makeup so it’s harder to see. This kit also comes with a bunch of other accessories like a clip on phone holder in case you wanted to record videos hands free!

Pura Vida Silver Wave Ring: $12

sterling silver wave ring for jewelry

This is probably my favorite (and cheapest) piece of jewelry I own. In the past two years it’s only come off my finger a few times, which to me says a lot. One of my favorite parts of this ring is that it’s extremely comfortable to wear. When I’m not looking at it, I forget it’s there since it’s so lightweight. It’s also made out of sterling silver so it doesn’t leave that green residue that cheap rings do. In the two years I’ve owned it, I maybe polished it once with a specialized silver cloth. Other than that, it doesn’t take much for this ring to look good. Past the point of functionality, the design of the ring is what really caught my eye. It’s stunningly simple, but looks great on my hand. I know this ring has become overwhelmingly popular on Instagram and Pinterest. However, I didn’t necessarily buy it because everybody else was. This ring actually has a much deeper meaning to me. I’ll try to keep the story short. Basically, The Lumineers (one of my favorite bands) released a music video for their song called “Sleep on the Floor” and it still continues to inspire me so much. I don’t want to give away what happens, but if you watch the video or even better the full length “Ballad of Cleopatra” you’ll see where the wave symbol comes into play. TLDR: this ring is everything to me and if I ever lost it I’d be immediately heartbroken and buy another.
