Hi, my name is Elyse and I am a beauty hoarder. There comes a time when you have to admit you have a problem and this is me doing that. To be honest, I find it hard to part with makeup for many reasons. The first and most obvious is that I don’t like to waste product/money. The less obvious and probably less logical reason is that each piece of makeup reminds me of a certain period in my life. (Yeah, yeah, I’m crazy.) 9 out of 10 times I can probably tell you when and where I bought each product as well as when I used it the most. This sounds weird typing it. I promise it makes sense in my brain. Anyway, my collection has gotten too big and overwhelming to the point where I have to cut back. So join me in this declutterfest as I try to detatch myself from certain items.
Colourpop Jelly Much Eyeshadows: $8 each

These launched last summer and I distinctly remember telling myself I didn’t need them. A week later, three ended up in my cart and at my front door. Oops. I actually really liked these, especially because the shades I picked seemed to be pretty unique. In the long run, I probably should have listened to my first instinct. After the summer, I stopped playing with them all together and now they have unfortunately dried out significantly. I can probably dig my fingers to get some pigment out, but since I don’t really reach for them anyway I’m just gonna toss them.
Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Pink Peony: $17

The only reason I’ve held onto this lipstick for so long is because of the packaging. I know, it’s embarrassing. I got this product in one of those Tarte promotions where you pick out 7 products from a list of certain items for $63. (It’s a great deal and Tarte usually does it only 2 days out of the entire year.) Anyway, I probably would have never gotten this product otherwise because I’m not the biggest fan of tubed lipstick. I much prefer a liquid lip with an applicator or gloss. However, this is what I chose and when I received the package I immediately knew this shade was too pink for me. I can get away with it if I dab the TINIEST amount on the center of my lips, but at that point it’s just kinda dumb.
Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in Fair : $9.99

I remember being in high school when this concealer first hit shelves. I used it then, but couldn’t tell you what I thought of it. However, I repurchased a couple years back and now I do have a solid opinion. It’s not good. Even though this has become a cult classic for many, I can’t get behind the movement. First, the applicator is fucking awful. Whether you drag it or stamp it on the skin, it’s quite frankly a pain in the ass. Second, the formula is thick with like ten C’s. It looks awful over zits, acne scars, or any other texture common on the face. I’m ashamed to admit I’ve used as much of it as I did. I’ll choose the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer every time instead.
Too Faced Melted Chocolate Milkshake Liquified Long Wear Lipstick: $21 (full size)

I couldn’t even tell you whether I liked the formula of this product or not because I’ve never worn it long enough. No matter what eyeshadow I paired this lip with, it looked so odd with my skin tone. It’s a warm brown, but pulls super orange on me and quite frankly I hate it. The only redeeming quality of this lippie is that it tastes like straight up hot chocolate. I think if you have a deeper skin tone, the color might work better.
Wet n Wild Coloricon Eyeliner in Amethyst: discontinued

This product was never good; I’m surprised I kept it this long. Let me preface this with I’m not the biggest fan of eyeliner in general whether it be on my eyelids or in my waterline. I’ve only ever used this in my waterline and I can probably count the number of times on one hand. The color is really pretty, but to get any pigment whatsoever I have to go back and forth with it a million times while tugging at my eyes. It’s annoying, painful, and quite frankly a waste of time since it doesn’t even stay put. I would set this eyeliner with the purple shade from the Urban Decay Smokey Palette (which has been discontinued since) and that was the only time it looked good and lasted on my eyes. Not really worth it in the end.
Benefit High Beam Liquid Highlighter: $26 (full size)

This liquid highlighter has both positives and negatives. The color has a light pink tint to it so it’s wearable, but also not my first choice. I’d much rather prefer a champagne or light gold shade. However, the result is pretty jaw dropping especially when layering this liquid highlighter with a powder highlight over top. The combo was actually so intense I’d only wear it out on very special occasions. The biggest issue I have with this product is the fact that it’s not the easiest to blend out and moves foundation around. Annoying, but if you work with it you can get it to look good. I will be getting rid of this sample size though because my Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Highlighters work even better with less tampering.
L’oreal 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Iced Latte: $7.99

This one hurts. I got this eyeshadow when I started college and now I’ve officially graduated. Translation: this product is old af. Four years ago, this was a revolutionary item considering there were very limited pressed pigments on the market. Well, at least to my knowledge. (Even though this is marketed as a regular eyeshadow it’s def a pressed pigment) I really liked this color because it was perfect as an inner corner highlight or an all over lid shade. Over time though, I’ve discovered products I like way more, so this kinda fell out of my routine. Guess, I never looked back because I can’t even remember the last time I reached for it. Time to part ways old friend.
Maybelline Superstay Foundation in Natural Ivory: $11.99

I’m chalking this up as an empty since it’s basically finished. Despite the fact, I haven’t actually grabbed this product in months. When I first started using this foundation over a year ago, I couldn’t get enough of it. It was pretty full coverage, sat nicely on top of my skin, and lasted a decent amount of time before wearing off. I even wore this to a wedding and it looked flawless from morning to night. However, as I came closer to finishing the bottle I experienced many more issues. The foundation started emphasizing my texture to a point where it made me feel insecure with it on. The formula is also thick to the point where it deformed a few Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponges. Literally no amount of soap would remove all the product, which frustrated me to no end. I found that using a regular Beautyblender worked better, but not enough to the point where I loved this foundation as much as I did in the start. I’m not sure if the formula changed as it sat on my shelf or I just became pickier over time, but either way I’m done trying to make it work.

I always found the melted lipsticks to be quite drying as well as a bit strange colour for me at least
