J.Cat Beauty Pris-Metal Chrome Eye Mousse Review

I realized I haven’t done a review on a singular product since March. That needed to be changed! These J.Cat Beauty Pris-Metal Chrome Eye Mousse are by no means new in the makeup world, but they are to me. I’ve seen these floating around the beauty community on Instagram and finally decided I needed at least one after I saw Jessica Furno’s (@jessinadressblog) post back in February. (Yes, it did take me until September to finally buy these because I honestly kept forgetting.) In her post, she showcased the shade Chrome Galaxy, which looked almost rose goldish. I figured this would look good on my green/hazel eyes and so instead of buying just this one, I bought three. Hey now, they were on sale for a little under $5 a pop so who really won here? Anyway, keep reading for all my thoughts!

Packaging:

The packaging is nothing ground-breaking. We’ve seen singular eyeshadows in circular plastic containers since Colourpop quite literally took over the world. In fact, if I compare these to a Super Shock Shadow directly, the J.Cat ones are a tad smaller, but contain the same amount of product. We love efficiency! Obviously, the color of the packaging differs between brands, but both look aesthetically pleasing stacked on my beauty shelves. As for functionality, the packaging gets an A+ because it’s simple, easy to open, and takes up little to no space in a travel makeup bag or stored away.

The part you’ve all been waiting for. I fucking love these eyeshadows! And you know it’s serious when I take the time to voluntarily curse on my blog. Seriously though, these are a game changer. They look absolutely stunning on the eyes with barely any effort, which is my favorite type of eyeshadow. Jess also compared the texture to that of a Colourpop Super Shock Shadow saying these are more, well, “mousse-y.” And she’s absolutely right. It’s hard to explain without physically touching the product, but they feel a little heavier and almost stickier. That sounds like it would have a negative connotation, but it’s actually the opposite. The formula really adheres to the eyelids (you don’t even need a glitter glue for these to last) but, doesn’t make your eyes feel weighed down. It’s literally the best combination you could ask for.

Each shade is packed with a shit ton of micro glitter which is where the pizazz really comes in! They are definitely pigmented with one tiny dip of the finger. I’d say they’re almost in between a Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon Eyeshadow Stick and Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow. Whereas the CT Eyeshadow Sticks have a more subdued glow with flecks of glitter strewn throughout, these J.Cat shadows pack a much more foiled punch with a million times more micro glitter. Stila’s Liquid Eyeshadows contain chunkier glitter and have a more wet look to them. However, if you want an intense sparkle minus the concentrated glitter portion, these J.Cat shadows are going to get you there. Basically, I feel like this Eye Mousse line is a happy medium between soft glam and take me dancing at Cinderella’s ball.

Price: $5.99 each

Again, in comparison to a Super Shock Shadow by Colourpop, these J.Cat ones are only a cent less. I think it’s more than fair to pay around $6 each, considering the payoff that comes with the eyeshadows. The fact that I got these for under $5 when they were on sale makes them even more worth it to me. If you buy these from Ulta (they’re online only) you can also use a $3.50 off of $15 coupon to save extra $. What I would like to see in the future is a bundle of these Pris- Metal Chrome Eye Mousse, since buying individuals can add up quickly. If J.Cat made it possible to create your own set or came out with a prepackaged bundle (like they did with their Sparkling Powders), I could see myself potentially buying more right away. Performance:

Champagne Wiz is a beautiful rose shade that really makes my green eyes pop. I’m not really sure where J.Cat got “champagne” from though, because it’s clearly in the pink family. I will say that it looks a tad lighter on the eyes than it does in the pan, but stunning nonetheless! For this look, I simply threw a matte shade in the crease and popped this eyeshadow all over my lids. Even though it’s packed with micro glitter, I find it to be pretty wearable. You could easily dress up the look with a deeper crease and outer v as well.

Cosmic Candy is another gorgeous pink shade, but with a minor twist. It’s much lighter than Champagne Wiz and contains light blue micro glitter. This is definitely the most unique shade I bought and despite what sounds like an odd combo of colors, I still find it to be wearable. Again, I threw a light pink shade in the crease and then swiped this all over my lids. Of course it’s not a traditional neutral, but it’s also not neon. If you really want to play off the potential alien vibes though, you can easily add a duochrome highlighter to your cheeks, brow bone, or inner corners.

Chrome Galaxy is probably the most wearable of the three shades. It’s a pretty standard gold with (of course) a heaping dose of micro glitter. For some reason, this shade is actually a lot chunkier than the other two. I’m not sure if I got one from a bad batch, but it seems to apply heavier on some parts of my eyelids. I find myself having to rub my fingers over my eyes a bit more to get the desired look. However, it’s not that big of a deal, especially because the final result is a golden dream. For this look, I defined my crease and outer corners with two different brown shades and then used Chrome Galaxy on the inner 2/3rds of my eyelids. I’ve already used this eyeshadow on multiple other occasions since this look.

Final Thoughts:

Get these. Literally, like right now. I want to physically SEE you pop open a new tab on your phone. In all seriousness though, this product is stunning, easy to use, affordable, and it’s freaking glittery goodness. I could go on, but you’ve already let my big mouth say enough.

If you’ve tried these before or plan on getting some, let me know what you think!

  1. I prefer these to Colourpop’s super shock shadows, which always seem to be out of stock anyway. With CP the shadow compresses when I use it, and it barely transfers to my eyelid, or fades quickly. These are much more vibrant, adhere better.

    1. These definitely have a stickier base compared to Colourpop Super Shocks. I also like that they have more of a pigmented base color compared to some shades from the Super Shock line.
